Nothing compares with the soul-restoring benefits of nature's playground, and it's all here in Flin Flon. Within minutes, you can flee the daily grind and be alone amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in Canada. Here, the waters are pure and deep, and silent forests stretch for mile after unimpeded mile. For the sportsman, deep lakes shelter nature's perfect fish, the walleye, as well as enormous lake trout, burbot, jackfish, and many others. The Flin Flon Trout Festival held each Canada Day weekend is the culmination of a month-long fishing derby where the winning lake trout often reaches 40 pounds. As well, the area is fabulous for hunters, who can find plentiful large game and waterfowl. For the watersport enthusiast, there are many areas for canoeing, sailing or power boating. Trace the route of Samuel Hearne along the Grass River Corridor or hike through the ancient boreal forest and photograph the unique Limestone Crevasses near Denare Beach. The Phantom Lake Golf Club offers a truly unique challenge to the golfer. You can have fun watching or playing in the summer slowpitch and fastball leagues. There are many organized sports activities for kids of all ages and you can swim at beautiful sand beaches at any one of the incredible lakes in the area. You can visit the Flin Flon Petting Zoo, walk along Flinty's Boardwalk which spans half the town, take a boat ride on Amisk Lake, or take a tour of the surface operations at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. With hockey, snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and skating, outdoor fun goes well beyond the summertime. Junior A Hockey is a tradition as the Flin Flon Bombers are a source of pride and history. www.bombers.ca
