FACILITIES
The
Flin Flon Parks and Recreation Commission has several facilities under
its jurisdiction:
Affiliated Facilities / Curling Clubs
The Uptown Curling Club and Willowpark Curling Club operate solely through
their respective board of directors, but do liase with the Parks and Recreation
Commission dealing with lease arrangements, grants, and capital projects.
Aqua
Center
This facility is complete with a 25 meter pool which features five lanes, a one meter
diving board, men's and ladies's saunas, jacuzzi, weight room, and change area. The pool
has a number of programs offered year around, such as: Red Cross Swimming lessons,
Lifesaving Society courses, First Aid Courses, and Resistance Training Classes. One can
also rent the pool for Birthday Parties and school activities.
Ball
Parks
Centoba Park currently has four diamonds for use. Major renovations at Centoba Park have
occurred with still more plans being made to improve the field conditions. Other parks are
Lakeside, Queen's, McIsaac, and North Avenue.
Camp
Whitney
This outdoor education camp is located on Lake Athapap and has undergone
renovations to upgrade the sleeping cabins. Up to 80 people can be housed
at Camp Whitney, where usage primary occurs from June to August. Camp

Cemeteries
Maintenance and landscaping of the four municipal cemeteries is generally carried out by
the recreation department's parks staff, with the prime emphasis being from the May long
weekend until October.
Community
Hall
The community complex has an auditorium for events and socials, pottery
room, art room, weight lifting area, hobby shop, meeting room space, senior
citizens room, kitchen, and stage facilities. The hall is used by many
interested groups and is used frequently for community events.
Fitness
Trail
The Kin-Fit Trail is approximately a one mile long exercise trail which winds through the
wooded area by McIsaac School. This perfect setting is ideal for quiet walks or vigorous
runs.

Flon Arts Council
The Arts Council offers a variety of cultural, and artistic opportunities. They host many
musical, drama, and performing arts events. A community choir has been formed as well.
Flin
Flon Station Museum
The Flin Flon Station Museum has relocated to the CN Building at the Flin Flon Tourist
Park and offers visual history of Flin Flon and it's mining tradition.
Foster
Park
A small track is used by local track and field groups, the Flin Flon School Division and
for special events.
Joe
Brain Children's Petting Zoo
This unique park area is seasonal, May - September, and is maintained by summer staff. The
park houses several animals and is a prime tourist spot during the summer months. The zoo
also features a concession, playground and picnic areas, and pony rides.
Outdoor
Rinks
Outdoor rinks are currently in existence at Birchview, North Avenue, Centennial, South
Hudson, Dominion, Alder and the Trailer Court. Flooding is done by staff, but day to day
shoveling and cleaning is to be carried out by local residents. The rinks are usually in
operation from December to March.
Parks
-Playgrounds-Grass Areas
Fifteen children's playgrounds are maintained by parks staff as are several green areas
scattered throughout the city. Flower planting is carried out by staff.
Phantom
Lake Soccer Field
Currently the Phantom lake Soccer Club has developed a permanent soccer pitch. This field
would be used by all minor and adult soccer players.
Rotary
Wheel
This is a log pavilion, featuring a fire pit, that can accommodate up to 100 people. Ideal
for social functions, meetings, and conferences. The Rotary Wheel is available from May to
September.
Tourist
Park and Campground
This area has 26 electric and 46 non-electric sites. It also includes a tourist
information bureau, showers, washrooms, a museum, and a playground open from May -
September and is staffed by summer employees.
Wading
Pools
Willowvale Pool and Rotary Pool (Rotary Club) are the wading pools operated by the Parks
and Recreation Commission. These pools normally operate from June 28 to August 28

Beautiful, scenic view of Flin Flon from Bellevue, overlooking Ross Lake
Whitney
Forum
This facility houses the skating arena, the walking track, "The Bomber Wall Of
Fame", and display cabinet. Ice is in the arena from August 1 to April 1, and
numerous summer events are held there. Whitney forum is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00
p.m. Major renovations to improve floor, boards, and roofing area have been completed and
a new chiller has been installed.
Wildlife
Sanctuary
This quiet park area is home for hundreds of birds and ducks throughout the summer months.
A small green area, picnic tables and wishing well are on location. |
