Flin Flon is a thriving mining community and vacationers destination nestled in the middle of nature's magnificence. Located on the Manitoba - Saskatchewan border, north of the 55th parallel of latitude, the City of Flin Flon is part of the Precambrian Amisk Volcanic Belt. Located at the western entrance to the Grass River Corridor, the city is quickly forging a page in the history books as one of Canada's richest mining communities. Over seventy years old, Flin Flon continues to be a community with character, quality of life, and opportunity. We are 743 km northwest of Winnipeg (via Highway #10) and 547 km northeast of Saskatoon, SK (via highway #106 - the Hanson Lake Road). The City of Flin Flon is a unique northern urban community of 5594 residents with a trading area of over 20 000. In the summer months, the Flin Flon Tourist Park and Campground offers 75 non-electric or electric sites as well as picnicking and tenting areas, and Baker's Narrows Provincial Park boasts both electric and non-electric sites, picnicking sites, as well as a scenic tower that provides a magnificent view of the surrounding lake and terrain. The city possesses a number of fine restaurants, nightspots, a scenic golf course, a boardwalk, a fitness trail, a wildlife sanctuary, and numberous lakes with sandy beaches.
The discovery of gold around Amisk Lake in 1910 led people from all over Canada into this area.
